Opening Doors to dignity & hope

Serving the Homeless

In the heart of Polk County, Talbot House Ministries provides shelter, food, healthcare, and long-term support to individuals experiencing homelessness. With over 1,700 homeless households in our county alone—and nearly 17,000 unsheltered across Florida—we stand in the gap, offering stability and renewed purpose. Every day, we help neighbors take the next step toward independence and dignity.

Homelessness doesn’t discriminate – it can begin with a single setback.

As of the latest available data, Florida reported approximately 16,979 individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness in 2024. However, specific figures for Polk County’s unsheltered homeless population are not readily available in the provided sources.

What we do know is that we serve over 160 individuals each month. Sadly, we have to turn away individuals everyday.

Residence Programs

Talbot House offers two short-term residential programs which provide case management and educational opportunities for adults experiencing homelessness. These programs last six to 24 months.

Women & Children

We are overjoyed to share we are now open to single-mothers and children at our brand-new Center for Women and Children in Winter Haven.

Affordable Housing

As part of our mission to serve homeless individuals and families, Talbot House Ministries owns and operates 46 units of affordable housing.

Good Samaritan Free Clinic

The Good Samaritan Free Clinic offers free medical, dental, and mental health care to uninsured, low-income individuals in Polk County.

Solutions

Talbot House’s comprehensive training and employment program focuses on overcoming barriers to achieving stable, gainful employment.
