This time last year, Talbot House Ministries celebrated the acquisition of two foreclosed apartment buildings which we would transform into an affordable housing community in central Lakeland. After a year full of unpredictability which delayed the progress of renovation efforts, we are pleased to announce the expected grand opening will take place in March 2021.

So what’s taken so long? Early on in the project, Talbot House was informed that the properties would need a dramatic plumbing overhaul which no one had originally anticipated. This setback, combined with slowdowns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, pushed our construction timeline out an additional three months.

But the work goes on. Roofing, windows, and doors have all been replaced. Drywall is going up, along with the wiring, plumbing, HVAC, and more. We will have more pictures to share with you in the coming months as the property truly begins taking shape.

Once completed, the Vermont Place Apartments will offer 16 units of affordable housing to low- and very low-income working adults, veterans, and the disabled. Tenants will also have access to the wraparound services Talbot House provides – free medical and dental care, employment training and placement, financial education, and so much more! Talbot House Ministries is eagerly anticipating the grand opening of this facility, which will make a world of difference to generations of vulnerable individuals in need of a safe, affordable place to stay.

We are so grateful for the community’s support, prayers, and encouragement over the course of the last year. With your help, we are building a bright new future!
