The United Way of Central Florida has been strengthening the communities of Polk, Hardee, and Highlands counties for more than 75 years. Their mission, to improve lives and strengthen our community, comes alive in the work we are able to accomplish at Talbot House.

A major supporter of several Talbot House programs, the United Way of Central Florida helps to fund health care services through the Good Samaritan Free Clinic, income opportunities and financial education through Solutions, and safety net services through our emergency shelter. These programs coincide with their initiatives of health, financial stability, and basic needs. With their help, we are able to provide these services to the low-income, uninsured, and families suffering from homelessness.

We are happy to share that critical funding has recently been renewed by Community Investment Teams (CIT) at United Way of Central Florida. The CIT is a group of volunteers who do the difficult work of evaluating and allocating funding to many organizations across Central Florida. This competitive process is based off of community need, specific program outcomes, a program’s history of success, and numerous other criteria. We are thankful for this year’s CIT’s for continuing to believe in our work, recognizing our success, and funding essential programs in our ministry.

Recently, amid the coronavirus pandemic, United Way of Central Florida provided additional philanthropic support. The United Community Relief Fund, a partnership with Givewell Community Foundation, provided funding for housing, food, transportation, and personal protective equipment for those affected by the pandemic. This relief fund met the unprecedented needs of our community at a time when we needed it most.
