Solutions is a comprehensive training and employment program at Talbot House Ministries designed to assist people in overcoming the barriers blocking stable employment. Solutions provides career counseling, resume assistance, job interview training, and other supportive services towards employment.

One of the many opportunities provided by Solutions for residents is Community Work Projects. A work project is initiated by someone in the community in need of assistance completing a project – a church, a neighbor, or a local business. Our residents are then granted the opportunity to complete the project for modest compensation. These projects offer participants the opportunity to demonstrate and practice employment skills.

Sample projects include general and skilled labor, such as yard work, moving assistance, painting, and flooring installation. Suggested rates range from $10 to $15 per hour, depending on the type of work.

Rafael Manzano, Employment Director at Solutions, shared, “We are truly thankful for the Community Work Projects program and its participants and partners. It provides an
opportunity for clients to slowly return to the workforce and it gives us an opportunity to evaluate them for next steps. Not only can they earn money, but more importantly, they have the ability to demonstrate some
of the soft skills needed to obtain and maintain employment.”

Residents are grateful for the opportunity to help the community, to display their work ethic, and to be compensated for their hard work as they strive to achieve long-term employment and self-sufficiency.

The only way to know someone’s potential is to give them a chance.
