Samuel is one of four Talbot House residents who have gained employment in the past week! He’s working full-time as a server at the Grand Villa Senior Living Community of Lakeland, but is already taking initiative to help out staff in other areas as well.

Samuel was born and raised in Chicago. He used to work for the city in parking enforcement, and even started his own successful car detailing business. After going through a rough divorce and suffering a loss that ended his business, Samuel found himself battling with drug and alcohol addictions. This summer, he moved to Florida to be closer to his family. He came to Talbot House Ministries in August looking for a fresh start and a chance to better himself.

During his time at Talbot House Ministries, Samuel says the most important thing he is learning is self-control.

“What I do with my time now, I don’t waste it.” Samuel commented thoughtfully. He’s turning 56 this December, and has grown intentional about setting goals and priorities for himself over the past few months. “I’ve met a lot of nice people here who help me look deeper… I want to be a better brother [to them].”

Always a diligent worker, Samuel says his next step is to get a second job that will allow him to save up his money faster and get a place of his own. Please keep Samuel in your prayers as he continues his journey toward financial independence!
