Early this year, the Polk County Board of County Commissioners approved a $900,000 grant for Talbot House to complete a kitchen and dining room expansion. This project will make it possible for us to feed more people with greater efficiency and accommodate social distancing as necessary.

We currently serve about 300 meals a day between breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We also distribute about 40 food boxes a week through our food pantry.

Renovations include an expansion of approximately 1,400 square feet, increased freezer and pantry space, and upgraded appliances. Renovations will allow for more space for food preparation and social distancing during meals. Overall, we expect this expansion to help us better serve those facing food insecurity in our community.

Due to limited kitchen access during renovations, we are in urgent need of plastic plates, plastic cups, plastic utensils, and other disposable items. View our list of urgent needs here.

Construction began during the fall and is expected to be completed by May 2022. In the meantime, pardon our dust!
