The Good Samaritan Free Clinic was started in the mid-1990s by a local physician and three nurse practitioners who saw the need for basic medical care for the homeless. Initially open only on Saturday mornings, held in the dining room of the old Talbot House and staffed by volunteers, the clinic has now grown to a facility that’s open five or six days weekly, has a regular staff and provides multiple services.  These services include:

  • Primary Care
  • Dental Care
  • Podiatry
  • Diabetic Clinics
  • Well Women Visits
  • Flu Shots
  • STD/HIV testing in conjunction with Polk County Health Department

The clinic provides healthcare visits to 5000 patients yearly. All care, supplies and medications are free of charge. To be seen in the clinic patients must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Must be uninsured and not receiving any insurance of any kind.
  2. Must have a Polk County Identification
  3. Must meet income requirements (less than 200% of federal poverty guidelines)
